Antigua
Antigua is situated in a valley and shadowed by three volcanoes. It was founded in 1543 and served as the colonial capital for over 200 years. Damaged by earthquakes in 1773, the capital was moved to present day Guatemala City shortly thereafter. Antigua retains its colonial charm along with numerous impressive ruins. In 1979, UNESCO declared Antigua a World Heritage Site.
San Marcos la Laguna
San Marcos La Laguna is a beautiful town on the shores of Lake Atitlan. San Marcos has increasingly been transforming itself into a spiritual destination. There are a variety of offerings including yoga, massage, meditation and various healing therapies.
I first visited San Marcos in 2001 and I have been sampling the various classes and teachers here ever since- which has enabled me to select those courses and instructors who I think have the most to offer.
